So, here we go, Round 2.\u00a0 At home\u2026. and what a doozy it was.\u00a0 The weather was less than favorable for our girls this week.\u00a0 The golfing weather gods were most definitely not on our side, but in true Coast spirit, the girls arrived as if the sunny weather had continued from the day before!<\/p>\n
This week our home match was against Marrickville.\u00a0 Another team used to the wet course conditions but not one to take lightly.<\/p>\n
First out of the gates in position 1 this week was Susie Sargent.\u00a0 Coming out of the gates at a steady pace, continuing her form most of the way.\u00a0 At the turn, it was still neck and neck until she started to approach the home straight.\u00a0 Confidence picking up, she nudged ahead to a 3 shot lead.\u00a0 But the pressure started to show as her ball became less obliging on the 14th<\/sup> and 15th<\/sup> \u2013 taking her on a more scenic route and eventually losing her ball.\u00a0 All square at the 17th<\/sup> she had a little chat to her new ball and, with a crack of her whip, she took out the win on the 17th<\/sup>.\u00a0 First match won, 2up.<\/p>\n Position 2 this week was our young amateur, Amy Weidlich.\u00a0 Quite the little firecracker is our Amy, it\u2019s always clear that she won\u2019t be putting up an easy fight.\u00a0 Her first ever match play event, starting off with a good warm up and getting up to a 4 shot lead after 14 holes.\u00a0 Thinking it was cause for an early celebration, she took a downhill slide on the 16th<\/sup> \u2013 literally \u2013 but managed to wipe the mud off and get straight back to focus on the job to come in with the win 3&2.<\/p>\n Position 3 \u2013 Julie Quigg.\u00a0 No messing about for our Julie this week.\u00a0 She saw the state of the weather and the course and made it clear from the start that she meant business.\u00a0 Taking an early mark to the clubhouse to seek shelter after the 12th<\/sup> hole, winning 8&6.<\/p>\n Position 4 \u2013 Cheryl Doyle.\u00a0 Cheryl made a great start and took an early 3 shot lead.\u00a0 Feeling pretty proud of herself, she took her foot off the peddle and let her opponent though for the next 7 holes.\u00a0 Realising what had happened, she started to make a comeback but unfortunately ran out of holes.\u00a0 Lost 4&2<\/p>\n Pip Hooper was at position 5 this week.\u00a0 Another flying start for our Pip taking an early 3 shot lead.\u00a0 With the spotter on the 9th<\/sup> not giving her the oomph she needed, her tee shot went straight into the drink, not once, but twice.\u00a0 Enough was enough, saving the few balls she had left, she gave the hole to her opponent and had a stern talking to herself as she walked the path straight to the 10th<\/sup>. Losing 2 balls on one hole wasn\u2019t enough to phase our Pip as she got outside the 10th<\/sup> green only to sink an almighty gobbler regaining another shot on her opponent.\u00a0 All clubs in tact, Pip came home with the win on the 14th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n The girls did so well to keep their composure in what we can only described as a bloody horrible day.\u00a0 Wet, windy, muddy and cold.\u00a0 How they scrubbed up for this photo is beyond me \u2013 well done girls!!<\/p>\n Final result \u2013 The Coast 4 \u2013 Marrickville 1<\/p>\n The girls have a bit of a break with their next game not until Friday 16th<\/sup> May at Kareela against Cronulla.\u00a0 Hopefully this \u2018big wet\u2019 will be a \u2018big dry\u2019 by then!<\/p>\n Great results girls!!<\/p>\n Leanne Williams<\/p>\n Ladies Vice-Captain<\/p>\n The first round for our Bronze 2 team had them at Beverley Park against the home team.\u00a0 With a lot of newbies to this team, we had a practice round to show them the match play ropes.<\/p>\n Position 1 was our kiwi racer, Susie Sargent.\u00a0 There was no bias in this selection whatsoever as we all know how \u2018raring\u2019 to go our Susie is with anything put before her.\u00a0 Her first pennant match was no different as she was full of excitement to represent The Coast, she went full steam ahead and came home with the win 1 up.<\/p>\n Position 2 this week was Julie Quigg.\u00a0 Julie didn\u2019t get off to a good start getting to 5 down.\u00a0 Ever the fighter is our Julie, putting up an amazing fight to come home with the win 1 up.\u00a0 Fantastic result Julie \u2013 go you good thing!<\/p>\n Position 3 was another newbie, Robin Stonecash.\u00a0 Another firecracker squashie is our Robyn, with early nerves putting her off to a bad start.\u00a0 Robin held on as best she could but unfortunately ended up going down 3&1.<\/p>\n Number 4, yet another newbie was Pip Hooper.\u00a0 Pip\u2019s been getting stuck into all competitions this year and the ladies pennants was high on her list.\u00a0 With high determination to get the job done, despite her aggression and snapping her 5 iron along the way, this didn\u2019t phase our Pip.\u00a0 She came in with a great win and one less club\u2026 1up.<\/p>\n Number 5 this week was field captain (FC) Jackie Worley.\u00a0 Nothing to add on this match apart from the lovely weather, lovely lunch and lovely girls.\u00a0 Jackie also loved driving the lovely cart at a lovely course.\u00a0\u00a0 Those were the only lovelies with FC unfortunately coming in with a 5&3 loss.<\/p>\n Final result \u2013 The Coast 3 \u2013 Beverley Park 2<\/p>\n A great start for this \u2018fresh\u2019 team against a home side.<\/p>\n The girls have their next game at home against Marrickville on Monday 28 April.<\/p>\n Best of luck girls!!<\/p>\n Leanne Williams<\/p>\n Ladies Vice-Captain<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
