Ladies News – June

Pennants – Whilst the Silver and Bronze 1 Pennants’ rounds were cancelled in May, due to courses being unplayable, the Bronze Pennants hung on for another couple of hopeful rain-affected weeks.  Eventually though, the Bronze 2 Pennants was cancelled.  Thank you to all the players who made up the various teams from week to week – talk about being dressed up with nowhere to go!

Matchplay – Individual Matchplay had to be rescheduled many times, but the final was eventually played between Amanda White and Cathy Balafoutis, with Amanda winning 6/4.  Congratulations to Amanda and well done to Cathy for making it to the final.  Cathy has only be playing golf for a short while and she also featured in our Bronze 2 team – so quite new to the wonderful world of Matchplay.  With all the references to “getting shots”, she soon realised it was nothing to do with either Covid or tequila!

Team Matchplay – the teams playing off in the final were Amanda White and Margaret Hogan, up against Carmel Fifield and Julie Quigg.  As the sun was setting slowly in the west, Amanda and Margaret won – 1 Up on the 19th.

Membership Drive – The Ladies Committee is presently coordinating refresher lessons for exisiting members, with Seb Howell.  Classes are being scheduled in early July and many members have signed up.   Also, as part of our own version of the “Women Get into Golf” program, we are actively seeking new members, to join us at The Coast.  Based on interest, and if you know anyone who may like to take up golf, we will coordinate beginner classes with the Golf Shop, and encourage all rookies to become members of the The Coast.

In the meantime, the Committee is looking forward to hosting our popular Christmas in July open day on 4 July.  After that, our energies will be directed to organising the Charity Day, to be held on 26 September.  As we have missed out on these events due to lockdowns in 2020 and 2021, we are excited to be back on track with our open days.
