Ladies News – August/September

The Coast representative ladies for the Golf NSW Bronze Medallion event, held on Thursday 31 August, were Lorna Foley and Heidi Gregory, plus Shona Choy and Cathy Balafoutis.  Played at Lakeside Camden and Ryde-Parramatta respectively.  Our girls played magnificently and came in at 9th place, out of a field of 42 clubs.  A wonderful result and we are very proud of their great effort.

Congratulations also to Hannah Thorley and her partner, Michelle Watts (from Monash GC), who played at the recent VWGA tournament at Muswellbrook.  They won the VWGA Diamond Jubilee Silver Plate with a fabulous score of 47 points.

Throughout August, we have been playing for the Individual Handicap Matchplay trophy.  The final was held on Saturday 2 September, between Stacy Garlick and Shona Choy.  A very even match up with the girls squared for much of the round.  However, Shona got there in the end with a 4/2 result.  Congratulations to a very competitive Shona and a terrific first time go for Stacy, in a Matchplay final.  Stacy is now hooked and we hope she can sign up for Bronze Pennants in 2024.

Our Charity Day is fast approaching and the Committee has received many great gifts and offers from members, local clubs and businesses.  All Coast members are invited to our pre-Charity Day raffle and auction night on Friday 22 September, where some big ticket items will be auctioned.   These include a Fairway Golf Tours Hunter Valley golf experience – 2-nights’ accommodation, breakfast, golf with carts and winery tour – for four lucky punters!  Also, a Rabbitohs’ Home Game experience – best in house 8 x centreline tickets, inner sanctum pre-match sticky beak around Accor Stadium – roll on 2024 for the lucky winner of this offer, and better luck for the Bunnies!  Thank you to Nicole Heinrich and Deb McDermott for negotiating these truly wonderful prizes.

Other raffle and silent auction donations have come from The Coast Club and Golf Shop; Bondi Icebergs Club and Hotel Ravesis, Bondi Beach; the Maroubra Seals Club; Csalt Restaurant at Yarra Bay Sailing Club; Little Bay Cellars; Driftwood Living at Little Bay and The Juniors.  We are very grateful for their support and look forward to our big day on Monday 25 September.  We have a record number of entries this year – 124 players have been registered and our members and visitors are looking forward to a fun-filled day for a worthy cause.  This year we are again raising funds for The Deli Women and Children’s Centre at Rosebery.

Finally, everyone is excited at the prospect of the Wednesday 9 hole comp beginning in October.  Congratulations to Luke for creating this opportunity and thank you to Young Henry’s for their sponsorship.  Luke tells me the ladies were very quick out of the blocks, to get their teams organised and we are well represented.  In the true spirit of golf, the teams are mixed and this comp promises to be very popular.  Speaking of mixes – please ensure there are sufficient supplies of that refreshing YH Gin and Tonic, for the après golf celebrations!
