Locust Update – July Report

The club was fortunate enough to have a drier June following what was a horrendously wet May. In early June its was still difficult to get machinery into those wet area. The club had a couple of new Locust recruits Luis Gonzalez and Stephen McFadyen. The other massive positive was the purchase of a second Ventrac front deck rough cutter. The club now has two rough cutters and one contour deck. With growth at its lowest the locust were able to get most of the rough areas cut.

The work carried out during June.

  • The contour deck cut the first line of rough on most Mondays.
  • Both rough decks have been used to control most of the rough
  • Due to slowing growth all the hazard lines were able to be whipper snipped. Whipper snipping the hill behind 16th green and LHS 18th hill are getting harder to cut, as the Locusts are not getting any younger.
  • Filling of fairway divots has taken a high priority. The course having not dried out has meant divots are easily made and sadly not filled in by the person making them.
  • Arthur White who is solely responsible for clearing the noxious vegetation around the course ( mostly back 9) hand sprayed the weeds.
  • There has been some dead tree removals from around the course, LHS 6th and LHS 7th.
  • The Captain weekly clears drainage spots and maintains the hazard posts.

Cheers

June 2025 Report

On a course that is drying out slowly the locusts worked to improve the courses playing conditions. I have to say a massive effort went in by the guys who turned up.

  • Rough cutting was done on both front and back 9’s. Special mention to the Captain for his 6 hour stint last Thursday.
  • Contour deck did the first line of rough and hills on all 18 holes.
  • Sanding of divots throughout the course. 36 buckets of sand alone were used on the 16th.
  • Whipper snipping behind the 3rd green , along path hazard line 4th hole, 7th RHS to 8th tee, 13th front of Blue tee, 16th hill RHS& LHS around to 12th and around dam on 18th.
  • Whipper snipping and mowing, back 5th green, back 6th green, LHS 7th south, LHS and RHS 11th and the LHS 16th rough down the hill where the rough cutter cannot go as its too wet.
  • Mowed the following, LHS of 10th tee to bridge, back 11th green, along path down to 12th tee, LHS 14th green, RHS 15th tee, hill at the back of the 16th tee.
  • Clearing of weeds on the 12th scrub area.
