Round 2 – Home vs Stonecutters Ridge
Warren
Week 2 Stonecutters Ridge GC @ The Coast GC – A/S
We all held our breaths in the days and morning leading up to our first home game of the season with large amounts of rain forecasted. Unfortunately, in the end, the course would be unable to handle the copious amount of water dumped in short periods of time as The Match Committee had to make the call to cancel play due to dangerous and unplayable conditions.
3’s Glen Hetherington & Zak Clark – We started this one fast and ground the opposition down as we were about to go 4 up through 7 before the match was called. Shout out to Doug Wesney and Adam Brady on the bags getting absolutely drenched. A/S
2’s Mark Millican & Alex Beefy White – First 6 holes were tightly contested to start this match. Just as we won the 6th hole and gained the momentum, the match was called off. Shout out to Anthony Ragusa swimming along with the bags. A/S
1’s Daniel McNeill © & Peter Woodward – If you haven’t already heard, Daniel chipped in for birdie on the first (second match in a row starting with a birdie). Stonecutters were quite relieved that this thing was called off as the boys were 4 up through 5. A/S
It really shows how much support we get as there were way too many members out getting absolutely soaked while helping spot, squeegee and supporting. It was mentioned many times by the opposition how impressed they were that so many came out in that weather. Special thanks to Deb McDermott, Luke and Tony CNF representing the match committee out spotting; Also, out spotting – Andy King, Steve Gaynor, Steve McDermott, Merv Danne, Scott Hayward, Tim Edwards, Maurie Rivett, Director Paul Bonomy squeegeeing the 4th green so we could putt out, Sponsors Bruce Jennings, Ben, Seb & G O’Neill. Very sorry if I missed anyone.
Thanks to the greens staff that got the course playable for as long as possible.
As always thanks to the Rep Committee for their support and to the sponsors JFS, Industralight and O’Neill Strata Management.

We were in a strong position early but unfortunately Captain Tony had no choice but to declare the course unplayable. Unlucky because the opposition really didn’t want to be there and our team was pumped.
I did have to console Tony Burnett at various stages for being a reserve 2 weeks in a row. This was performed in the safety of the clubhouse.
Special thanks to the Rep Committee, the Office, Tony, Bruce from JFS, Ben from O’Neil Strata, Industralite, green staff (so much rain) and bar staff (towels and getting very busy all of a sudden). We are still on top of the leaderboard and looking forward to Twin Creeks.
Round 1 – Away vs Stonecutters Ridge
Warren
We were met with beautiful weather for the season opener. The course was in great condition and the team was ready to finally start playing the season.
3’s Glen Hetherington & Adam Brady – We started out of the gate quickly in this match slightly leading for most the way on the front 9. We turned two up, then hit a tough stretch of holes where local knowledge kicked in for the home side. Finding ourselves 1 down on 13, Adam drained a much-needed putt to get it back to all square. Unfortunately, we would lose the next two, leaving little room for error coming home. Glen continued his great golf hitting 4 consecutive clutch shots in the last three holes while calmly making 2 straight 10+ footers to keep the match going down 18. Unfortunately, we squared the last which resulted in a loss 1 Down. Thanks to Zak Clark caddying for the group.
2’s Mark Millican & Alex ‘Beefy’ White – This match was a battle from the start. Mark and Alex started off combining well and keeping the match tight. It was a frustrating match at times, as the opposition combined well and seemed to take turn pulling off some incredible things…Standing on the 9th tee after watching both the Stonecutter boys snap hook and snap slice into the trees, we seemed to finally have caught our break. As it turns out, the snap hook was so bad it must have hit a house and bounced back to the middle of the fairway, leading to a 200+metre shot and sinking a 20-foot putt to win the hole. We would turn 3 down but never gave up, keeping the match going to the 15th even after Alex hit the par 5 in two, the opposition drained a bomb putt to finish the match 4&3 Loss. Thanks to Anthony Ragusa for caddying the group.
1’s Daniel McNeill © & Peter Woodward – The boys from The Coast started and stayed hot in this match as Pete made a fantastic short-sided bunker save on the first while Dan sank his birdie putt. Dan’s birdie putt on 2 came an inch short and was the last 15-footer he would miss the rest of the day (probably). At one point, Dan was seen kissing his putter uttering, you beauty…The opposition didn’t go away without a fight, however, generally when you make more putts than your opponent, you win the match. Which is what we did getting our first point on the board for the season winning 3&2. Thanks to Andy King and Nic Leitch for caddying the group.
Special thanks to the Rep Committee for their support and to the sponsors JFS (Bruce for making the trip out), Industralight and O’Neill Strata Management.
Congrats to the Gibbos getting a clean sweep away!

Wow, what a start to the season. Close matches all round. Doug and Khalief playing 3’s started well going 1 up early and 3 up after 12. Stonecutters fought back strongly but we were 1 up going down 18 and Doug sank a 15 foot slider to nail the win.
Playing at #2 was the old bull (Warren) and the young bull (Guy). Similar sort of match. Up early, went a bit further ahead then back to all square (I don’t like this managing caper at all). But the gents won 16 and 17 to win 2up.
Quiggy and Captain Kent playing 1’s get off to a difficult start. 3 down after 4. I’m not sure C graders are supposed to razz the ball back with wedges? They get one back here and there. Every time i see them putt out they go back to 2 down. Perseverance lads. Tell you what, how about we win 4 in a row and finish on 17 2 up!
3-0 The Coast. Thanks as always to the sponsors and travelling supporters. Thank you also to the Warrens for sticking around to watch us finish up. The spirit amongst the 2 squads is just fantastic.
