PRELIMINARY PLAYOFF
The Coast v RICHMOND @ ASQUITH GC
The first play-off round against Richmond, a team who had managed just 2 wins from the pool round – on paper this should have been comfortable……
The weather was warm, cloudy and barely a whisper of wind – perfect golf weather.
This weeks team:
- 5 – Margaret Grant & Ben O’Neill
- 4 – Carmel & Brad Fifield
- 3 – Amanda White & Cameron Martin
- 2 – Kerri Blyth & Mook Jadwat
- 1 – Leanne Williams & Paul (Barefoot) Bonomy
The match results:
Out at 5’s, Margaret and Ben got off to a good start. Dominant early, composed throughout and Margarets putting surgical, a great round from both saw them the first to finish and with a win 5&3.
Number 1’s, Leanne and Paul didn’t get off to a great start and from there it continued. The opposition played well – a convincing win, 7&5.
Kerri & Mook at 4’s also had a day they would rather forget, with a 4&3 loss. Moving swiftly along…..
With The Coast now 2-1 down, the tension was mounting for our 3s and 4s to bring in a win for the team…..
3s, Amanda and Cameron – refusing to make it easy on anyone, themselves included, grinding all the way to the 18th all square. Cameron stepped up to sink a beauty putt to seal the win – 1up.
2 a piece with our faithful Fifield duo to come……
At 4, Carmel & Brad …. Never in the lead, the Fifields found themselves dormy 2 after the 16th. No shots for all on the 17th, Carmel alone on the green, a pressure putt for a birdie and she sinks it to win the hole. Dormy 1 after 17th……
At the 18th, a par required to win the hole. Brad sinking another pressure putt to win the hole and put the game to square. The crowd erupts!
Off to the 19th – back to the 1st they go. The opposition getting into a spot of bother on the way to the green, Brad had a lengthy putt to sink for the par and the win. No pressure!! In it went securing the win we needed. Needless to say, The Coast crowd went wild.
The Coast 3 – Richmond 2

Round 5 – 15th of February
Macquarie Links (hosting) The Coast GC v Mona Vale GC
On a beautiful Sunday morning we all made are way down the M5.
We arrived to find a lush bright green golf course. A nice change from the last time we played there.
Mona Vale had no lost a game so far in the completion. Which speaks volumes.
It was always going to be our biggest challenge of the comp.
The handicap’s were quite evenly matched, But….we have a very determined squad.
Simple….win and progress. No thoughts of defeat!
The final result was a comprehensive win for The Coast 4.5 to .5
An Outstanding performance from an awesome team.
Brilliant! Off to the playoffs!
Big thanks to all the supporters.

We took a hike over to the beautiful Northern beach’s, on a drizzly overcast morning.
The weather never seemed to let up. From the first group out to the last.
What a difference in golf courses…..Last weeks playing conditions were a challenge within a challenge.
This week, Mona Vale offered up, a near perfect golf course. Kudos to them.
The Mixed team thrived in the ideal environment.
Up in 4 Matches at the turn, which proved to be the catalyst for a handsome win!
Great result team! Marvelous!

Round 3 – 1st of February
Hurstville (hosting) The Coast GC v Eastlake GC
Another barmy morning, with swirling winds after lunch. Just normal summertime weather….
Eastlake GC forfeited their reserves, early Sunday morning.
Quite disappointing. But our reserves managed to have a hit Infront of the field.
It became quite evident, That the course conditions were going to be a leveller…….
Council courses rely on natural rainfall. The only areas that had been watered were the greens.
That paints a clear picture……And preferred lies on the fairways.
It was one of the closest match ups I can remember.
2 matches finished on the 17th.
3 matches squared on 18.
It was a frustrating day for all the coast players.
But we hung in there to get half a point.
2.5 to 2.5
Well, Done!
Big thanks to all the supporters.

Round 2 – 18th January
Eastlake (hosting) The Coast GC v Macquarie Links GC
After 90mm of rain on Saturday, it was a toss of a coin early morning,
Whether this game would commence.
Some toing and froing with the Div 2 managers via text messages.
We finally got the green light. But no carts.
Eastlake is going through some course renovations, which didn’t affect the days play.
The course stood up well, considering all the rain.
All the team were geared up for a wet day ahead….
But thankfully the rain stayed away and the SPF50 needed to be applied.
All matches started tight, as normal,
Its only game on after the 9th and you can see who has the momentum.
An early loss, followed by an early win……
The frustrating part was trying to keep up with each match and getting an update.
This proved difficult with the distances between holes….
Then another win secured…. Good old whatsapp!!
With a decent stroll back, and we all managed to get together around the 18th green.
To celebrate or first win of the year!!
Plenty of grit and fight showed by the team!
Very proud of you all!
Big thanks to all the supporters.
