Ladies Bronze 1 Pennants – Updated 4/3/26

Ladies Bronze 1 Pennants – Round 4

Round 4 was played on Monday, 2nd March and had the girls at home against Lakeside.

After last weeks loss, the girls arrived at our beloved home course with the energy of 5 women who had everything to prove.

POSITION 1 – CAROL FUKUSHIMA

Last week lit a fire in Carol that no amount of course etiquette could contain.  Taking a brief moment to ease into her round, she found her groove and came home with a 3&1 win.

POSITION 2 – CATHY McDONALD

Nostrils still flaring from last week, Cathy arrived with scores to settle and clubs that were finally behaving themselves. The 3 wood? Back in business. The sand wedge? Doing what it’s told for once. The shandy? Calling her name early. She answered that call with a win 3&2.

POSITION 3 – JUDY BARRETT

Ex-presidentay walked onto the first tee, took an early lead, went 3 up at the turn, and essentially told her clubs to handle it while she planned her stroll back to the clubhouse with a win – 5&4.

POSITION 4 – TANYA JOAQUIN

Promotion well and truly earned! Our keen-as-mustard newbie has been absolutely everywhere lately – crushing it on the course, capturing it on camera AND providing me with a few match briefings (bless her). Bringing home another team win 4&3.

POSITION 5 – SHONA CHOY

After a round 2 9&8 win and a round 3 loss, this week Shona remembered who she was. The fairways were straight, the putts were dropping, and her opponent was simply along for an uncomfortable ride. A win for our Shona 5&4.

FINAL SCORE: 5 – 0.

A firecracker went off somewhere and ALL five girls had guns blazing.

Huge thanks to Deb McDermott & Lorna Foley – our setter-uppers who were there at the crack of dawn.  Also not forgetting our spotters Marisa Duggan, Susie Sargent & Diane Sissingh – keeping eyes on everything so the rest of us didn’t have to.

And finally… a VERY special shoutout to Deb for taking care of the day, giving me the keys to the Marshall cart so I could honk the horn with reckless abandon.  Close second highlight of the day behind the clean sweep.

With 3 rounds to go….. the girls play next Monday at Lakeside against Hurstville.

Ladies Bronze 1 Pennants – Round 3

Played at Cronulla vs Cronulla

Position 1 – Carol Fukushima – lost 4&3.

Position 2 – Cathy McDonald – lost 5&4.

Position 3 – Marisa Duggan – lost 2 down.

Position 4 – Tanya Joaquin – square.

Position 5 – Shona Choy – lost 5&4.

Well, it goes without saying that the girls were quieter than a library after this result providing me with little to no commentary for their games!  Heads down until they reached the bar, putting this loss well and truly behind them and focusing on next week!

A tough day at the office against a very strong home team – down 4 ½ – ½.

Ladies Bronze 1 Pennants – Round 2

Round 2 had the girls venture off to Kareela where the fairways were extremely dry and the greens fast.  Another tough opponent – Woolooware.

Position 1 – Carol Fukushima – kicked the team off with a strong opening round with some great golf putting the opposition on the back foot from the get-go.  A great start to the day coming in with her buggy still intact winning 3&2.

Position 2 – Cathy McDonald – our fearless field captain showed great resilience, battling hard to keep the opposition well in her sights, not letting anything slip, coming home with the win 3&2.

Position 3 – Judy Barrett, returning to the field against a very tough opponent.  Not a great start to Judy’s first pennants match for the season, she was under pressure for the whole round.  Not one to give in without a battle, she played her usual consistent match but her opponent was having a better day.  Down 6&5.

Shona Choy, again our number 4.  No messing about this week.  Shona was a complete demon on fire!  When asked what her best shots were for the day, her response “everything, everywhere” with a shrug of her shoulders.  That about sums it up with her score showing exactly that – winning 9&8.

Position 5, Tanya Joaquin.  Continuing her winning streak but finding the tight fairways a little of a challenge, she managed to hang in there being all square after the 7th.  All warmed up, she let the clubs do the talking for the next few holes, finishing with a win of 6&4.

Another win – 4-1 to The Coast!

Ladies Bronze 1 Pennants – Round 1

The Ladies Bronze 1 Pennant team is made up of players whose handicaps are from GA 18.0 to 31.0.

The season runs over 7 weeks and commenced on Friday, 13 February with the final round being played on 27 March.

Our first match last Friday had the girls playing at Hurstville against Oak Point – looking very sharp in their new uniforms.

This week at position 1 was Carol Fukushima – one of our demon match players.  Still on her P’s with her buggy (longer than most), with it all intact, Carol started off with one of her consistently straight drives, putting the opposition under pressure from the start.  Despite this, her opponent pushed her all the way but Carol held on reaching the end with a clean buggy and a win 1 up.

Position 2 was Cathy McDonald (Field Captain).  No more Gary-sitting duties (phew) saw Cathy looking more relaxed and ready for the match ahead.  Never in front but managing to claw her way back from 3 down, Cathy continued her fighting spirit taking the match as far as possible before being pipped at the post by a strong opponent, going down 2&1.

Coming back for more after last years great result saw the return of Marisa Duggan in position 4.  Marisa always shows grit and determination, regardless of what she calls her ball, and likes to get the job done as soon as possible.  Alas, she came up against a tough opponent this week and ended up losing her match 4&3.

The Coast were down 2 matches to 1 with 2 to come in……..

Shona Choy was our number 4 this week.  Shona is another of our match play demons and definitely didn’t disappoint this week.  Being more focused on her golf than her driving, Shona did some nail-biting off-road stunts with her cart but was able to return her focus back to the golf fairly smartly….. She was pushed to her limits but managed to keep her composure and came in with a win 1 up.

With one more match to come in and sitting at 2 all, both teams were feeling the tension.

Position 5 this week was one of our keen as mustard newbies, Tanya Joaquin.  It’s hard to keep Tanya off the golf course at the moment and the chop of her handicap since she joined The Coast towards the end of last year proves how much progress she’s made so far.  She’s proving to be a bit of a firecracker on the golf course.  All square after the 12th didn’t phase our new recruit who then sunk a gobbler on the 13th to commence her homeward streak of winning holes, coming in with a win of 4&2.

The Coast 3, Oak Point 2.  Starting week one from where we left off last year.  Great result for the girls.

This Friday the girls are playing at Kareela against Woolooware.
