Ladies Bronze 1 Pennants – Final Round
The final round took our girls to Oak Point to face Beverley Park – a must win with the position 2 & 3 teams also battling it out. A repeat of 2025 was NOT on the agenda.
The morning temperatures had everyone dressed like they were off to a ski field, but thankfully mother nature got the memo just in time for tee off and the layers were soon being shed.
POSITION 1 – CAROL FUKUSHIMA
First cab off the rank, Carol. She stepped up and did what Carol does – launched one straight down the fairway. Cool, calm, and utterly reliable, she dispatched her opponent with trademark match play precision. First win to The Coast, 3&2.
POSITION 2 – JUDY BARRETT
Judy played this with as much familiarity as she has with the back of her pitching wedge, and her opponent found that out the hard way. A masterclass in consistency, Judy’s short game was ticking along beautifully – and when those 20-foot putts started dropping, you could almost hear her opponent’s confidence quietly leave the building. Another win for The Coast, 3 up.
POSITION 3 – CATHY McDONALD
As Field Captain, Cathy had the weight of the team on her shoulders – and wore it like it was a featherweight visor. After last year’s painful lesson, she was not here to mess around. The match swung back and forth like a pendulum until the 11th, when Cathy’s chipping and putting suddenly caught fire. From there, our FC strolled in for the winning point, 3 up. Last year: a lesson. This year: revenge served with a smile.
With 3 matches secured, the remaining two girls had to finish their rounds, in case of a countback with the final results.
POSITION 5 – SHONA CHOY
Shona’s opponent celebrated her birthday a little too enthusiastically on the course today with putts dropping from every angle imaginable. Unfortunately too much for our Shona this week going down 5&3.
POSITION 4 – TANYA JOAQUIN
Unbeaten all season, Tanya was absolutely not about to let that record slip. A nail-biting tussle from start to finish, with Tanya heading to the 18th one down. A superb tee shot on the par 3 18th that had her opponent reaching for the white flag and conceding the hole. All square. Tanya’s record still intact.
FINAL SCORE: The Coast 4 – Beverley Park 1.
What an absolutely brilliant team effort from everyone who helped get us to this final – a special mention also to Marisa Duggan and Shannon Pickering, who were very much part of this journey. The camaraderie in this group has been something special all season, and great golf tends to follow great teammates.
And of course, we can’t sign off without immortalising the moment of the season – Shona’s victory dance in her cart down the fairway after sealing the win over Kareela and sending us to the top of the table ahead of today’s final round.
This result meant no other team could touch us at the top of the table. First place. Done. Dusted. Delightful.
The Coast are your 2026 Bronze 1 Pennant Champions!
GO THE COAST!!
